Materials and Care
Our pieces are made from a considered mix of natural and modern materials, from leather and cotton to tweed, soft-shell and silicone. Most need very little care: brush off dirt, spot clean marks promptly, let things dry naturally, and always follow the care label on your piece. Below is a guide to each material we use and how to look after it.
Our materials and how to care for them
Leather
A natural material that softens and develops character with use. Used on The Mayfair Collar, which has a soft webbing lining.
Care: wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and let it dry naturally, away from radiators and direct heat. Avoid soaking leather or putting it in the washing machine. A little leather conditioner from time to time helps keep it supple.
Vegan leather
A leather-look material that is not made from animal hide. Used on The Marylebone Walking Set and The Everyday Travel Carrier.
Care: wipe clean with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then dry with a soft towel. Avoid harsh cleaners and solvents, and do not machine wash.
Cotton
A soft, breathable natural fibre. Used on The Mayfair Carrier, the 100% cotton gingham of The Belsize Gingham Bed, and the upholstery of The Chelsea Sofa Bed.
Care: spot clean marks quickly with mild soap and cool water. Check the care label before washing any cotton cover, and air dry to help prevent shrinkage.
Cotton rope
Natural cotton rope, hand coiled to create The Keep toy basket.
Care: shake out or vacuum on a low setting to remove dust and fur. Spot clean with a damp cloth and let it dry fully in a well-ventilated room before refilling.
Tweed
A classic woven fabric with a heritage look. Used on The Pimlico Harness.
Care: brush off dried mud with a soft clothes brush once it has dried. Spot clean marks with a damp cloth, and follow the care label for anything more.
Polyester
A durable, lightweight synthetic fibre. The Cocopup Tweed Harness is made from polyester.
Care: spot clean with mild soap and cool water and let it air dry. Polyester dries relatively quickly, which makes it practical for everyday walks.
Soft-shell
A flexible outer fabric used for outdoor wear. The Regent Raincoat is made from waterproof soft-shell with a fleece lining.
Care: rinse off mud after a wet walk, then hang to dry at room temperature. Avoid fabric softener and direct heat, and follow the care label for washing.
Fleece
A soft, warm lining. Used inside The Regent Raincoat and The Everyday Travel Carrier.
Care: brush or lint-roll away fur, and air dry rather than using high heat.
Silicone
Flexible, easy to clean and pleasant to handle. Used on The Holland Park Treat Pouch and The Bloom Slow Feeder.
Care: wash in warm, soapy water after use, rinse well and leave to dry fully before storing.
Gold-tone and antique brass hardware
Our collar clasps, buckles and fittings come in warm finishes: warm gold on The Kensington Collar, solid gold-tone on The Mayfair Collar, and antique brass on The Marylebone Walking Set.
Care: wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wet or muddy walks, and avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners, which can dull the finish. Dry hardware thoroughly before storing.
Solid wood
Used for the legs of The Chelsea Sofa Bed.
Care: dust with a dry cloth and wipe up spills straight away. Avoid soaking the wood or placing it right next to a radiator.
Washable beds
The Richmond Bed and The Savanna Bed both have removable cushions and are washable at 30°C. For more on keeping a pale bed fresh, see our guide on how to keep a cream dog bed clean.
